Ward 9 Forward

Specific ideas. Local priorities. A plan for what's next.

Ward 9 is growing, and our infrastructure, public spaces, recreation, and everyday City services need to keep pace. These are some of the specific projects and improvements I will advocate for at City Hall.

Advance a Southeast Community & Recreation Centre

Southeast Barrie continues to grow, and our community infrastructure needs to grow with it.

I will advocate for advancing a multi-purpose community and recreation facility serving southeast Barrie and Ward 9.

Residents should have a direct role in determining what a future facility should include. Possibilities could include indoor recreation, youth programming, community meeting spaces, accessible facilities, and other amenities identified through community consultation.

The Goal

Move a southeast community and recreation centre forward as a serious long-term City priority.

Infrastructure That Keeps Pace With Growth

I support adding housing and accommodating Barrie's growth, but development needs to be accompanied by the infrastructure required to support it.

As Ward 9 and southeast Barrie grow, I will push for roads, intersections, sidewalks, transit, parks, recreation, and other municipal infrastructure to be planned alongside new development rather than continually catching up afterward.

I will also advocate for continued attention to traffic congestion and infrastructure pressures in rapidly developing areas.

The Goal

Responsible growth where infrastructure and community services keep pace with new development.

Improve the Painswick Library Green Space

The area around the Painswick Library has the potential to become an even better neighbourhood gathering place.

I will work with residents, City staff, and Council to explore improvements to this space, including possibilities such as additional trees, landscaping, seating, accessible features, and areas where residents can gather and enjoy the outdoors.

Residents should be directly consulted before deciding what improvements are appropriate for the space.

The Goal

Transform an underused community space into an attractive and accessible gathering place for Ward 9.

Safer, More Walkable Neighbourhoods

The smaller details of municipal infrastructure can have a major impact on everyday life.

I will prioritize concerns involving street lighting, pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, speeding, traffic calming, accessibility, and connections between neighbourhoods, parks, schools, trails, and transit.

Ward 9 residents of all ages and abilities should be able to safely move around their neighbourhood.

The Goal

Make Ward 9 safer and easier to navigate whether residents are walking, cycling, driving, or using transit.

Fix the Basics

Not every important improvement requires a massive new project.

Residents pay property taxes and should expect the infrastructure and public spaces they already have to be properly maintained.

Road conditions, broken streetlights, damaged sidewalks, park maintenance, waste concerns, snow clearing, and other everyday neighbourhood issues deserve consistent attention.

As Councillor, I will regularly identify outstanding Ward 9 maintenance concerns, bring them to City staff, follow up, and communicate progress back to residents.

Where possible, I want residents to be able to see which neighbourhood concerns have been raised and receive updates on their progress.

The Goal

Make everyday neighbourhood maintenance a consistent priority and improve accountability when residents report problems.

Protect and Improve Parks & Trails

As Ward 9 develops, our parks, trails, trees, and green spaces should remain an important part of neighbourhood planning.

I will support better trail connections, accessibility improvements, additional shade and seating where appropriate, and quality parks and public spaces for growing neighbourhoods.

New development should contribute to neighbourhoods that people actually enjoy living in.

The Goal

Ensure growth strengthens Ward 9's parks and public spaces rather than leaving them behind.

Your Neighbourhood. Your Ideas.

Ward 9 Forward isn't a finished list.

Some of the best ideas for our neighbourhood will come directly from the people who live here. If there is a project Ward 9 needs, an intersection that concerns you, a park that could be improved, or simply something you believe our community is missing, I want to hear about it.

Resident suggestions may help shape additional Ward 9 Forward priorities throughout the campaign.
